Having one company that has intimate knowledge of your site requirements and systems goes a long way to providing you with a total service and maintenance solution. Your ancillary systems are a crucial component to your asset protection as well as your overall HVAC and Fire Protection system efficiency.

  • Regular maintenance and servicing of air filters, kitchen canopies, grease filters, and ductwork is crucial for the optimal functioning and safety of your working environments.

Maintaining a clean and efficient kitchen environment is not just a matter of aesthetics; it is fundamentally tied to the safety and functionality of your operations. Here are a few key reasons why regular cleaning of kitchen canopies and exhaust systems is imperative:

  1. Fire Safety: Grease and flammable residues accumulate in kitchen exhaust systems over time. Without proper cleaning, these substances pose a significant fire hazard. Regular cleaning helps mitigate the risk of fire, ensuring a safer working environment for your staff and preserving the integrity of our facility.

  2. Air Quality: A clean exhaust system contributes to better indoor air quality. As cooking residues build up in the ductwork, they can release harmful pollutants into the air, affecting the health and well-being of both your staff and patrons. Routine cleaning helps maintain a healthier kitchen atmosphere.

  3. System Efficiency: Grease build up can impede the efficiency of kitchen exhaust systems. Reduced efficiency not only hampers the ventilation process but also puts additional strain on equipment, leading to increased energy consumption and potential malfunctions. Regular cleaning ensures that your systems operate at optimal levels.

  4. Compliance: Health and safety regulations often mandate regular cleaning of kitchen exhaust systems. By adhering to these regulations, we not only ensure compliance but also demonstrate your commitment to providing a safe and hygienic environment for your customers.

Air Filtration

There are three main reasons we need to filter this air:

  1. To protect product or the manufacturing process from being contaminated

  2. To protect expensive machinery and equipment from damage

  3. To protect people who may come in contact with the contaminated air.

These various reasons for particulate removal affect the approach to solving the contaminant problem faced. The protection of product, process and machinery often requires a higher level of filtration than general HVAC.

Filtration requirements for people may not be so straight forward with a range of particulates, toxins, moulds etc. that may be found in modern city environments. There are several Australian Standards and Industry Codes that provide the minimum requirements for general air filtration but these levels may not provide adequate protection. MDL has over 35 years experience in providing our clients with cost effective solutions to their indoor air quality requirements. We provide products ranging from ULPA/ HEPA solutions for hospitals and laboratories through to roughing and dust extraction elements for industry and all air filtration levels between.

When assessing a site for the filtration levels required these Minimum Requirements should be treated as a starting point only. Where higher levels are required and can be substantiated they should be installed. The higher level of filtration can repay itself several times over in saved maintenance costs.

The benefits of this higher filtration level include energy savings through more efficient heat exchangers and lower pressure drop across the cleaner coils. A reduction in the frequency of duct cleaning, façade maintenance and cleaning of heat exchangers. It will also provide a cleaner, safer and more enjoyable environment for staff and customers.

Industry can also benefit from increased filtration levels by reducing spoilage and rejects while extending the life of expensive plant and equipment.

Air Duct Cleaning

The Ventilation and Air conditioning systems act as a collector and pathway for contaminants.

For example a leaking roof could allow water to wet a dirty carpet. This could lead to the growth of fungi within the carpet, any spores released subsequently can enter the duct system and be dispersed throughout the areas serviced by that system.

Fungi have been associated with allergic conditions in humans and high levels present in the atmosphere may affect certain individuals. Short term absenteeism may well be attributable to a heavily contaminated system.

The presence of particulate contamination in the air handling system also increases maintenance costs due to staining of registers and façade as well as potential damage to equipment. As with improved air filtration efficiency a clean air system will lead to cost savings in system efficiency, downtime and reliability.

Extraction systems also require maintenance of the air handling system. Partially blocked lines decrease the extraction efficiency and can lead to high load conditions for fan units. This is not only a potential fire risk but reduces the life of expensive plant while increasing power consumption. It can also mean that waste material is no longer cleared from the work area effectively.

Kitchen Exhaust systems as well as Laundry Lint systems require special attention due to the potentially volatile nature of the contaminant. This is true for any systems with a volatile or toxic contaminant.

An often neglected part of an air handling system is the ductwork. Out of sight should not be out of mind.

Indoor air is very often ‘dirtier’ than outside air.
